Block Scheduling
New for the 2025-26 School Year!
WCS is excited to announce that our three traditional high schools will transition to a 4x4 Block Schedule beginning August 2025. This change represents an important step in enhancing the educational experience for our students.
With the new block schedule, students will focus on four subjects each semester, allowing them to dive deeper into their studies. Longer class periods will provide opportunities for more engaging, hands-on learning, including projects, labs and interactive lessons. This schedule also offers students the flexibility to explore electives and pathways that align with their interests and future goals.
We are confident that the 4x4 Block Schedule will provide our students with a more personalized and enriched learning experience. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to provide the best possible educational opportunities for all of our students!
How It Works
The 4x4 Block Schedule is designed to provide students with a more focused and streamlined learning experience. Instead of seven class periods a day for the entire school year, students will complete four courses each semester, allowing them to concentrate on fewer subjects at a time. The table below is an example of what a block schedule can look like, illustrating how students take different sets of courses in the fall and spring semesters.
First Semester | Second Semester | |
---|---|---|
1st Block | English | Science |
2nd Block | Math | Social Studies |
3rd Block | Elective | Elective |
4th Block | Elective | Elective |
Students will still earn the same number of credits required for graduation, but in a schedule that allows for:
- Deeper Learning
-
Students focus on fewer subjects at a time, allowing for more meaningful engagement.
-
- Longer Class Periods
-
Extended class times provide opportunities for hands-on learning, labs, projects and collaborative activities.
-
- Increased Flexibility
-
This structure offers more room in schedules for electives, career pathways and advanced coursework.
